November 23, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” with the Holiday Classic

“Meet Me in St. Louis”

Opening at the Woodland Opera House on Friday, November 23rd

A beloved classic of American cinema, “Meet Me in St. Louis” will open at the Woodland Opera House on Thanksgiving weekend.  The stage adaptation of the popular musical film will play Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. from November 23rd through December 16th. The show is generously underwritten by Sharon Joyce.

“Meet Me in St. Louis” is a charming story about the lives and loves of a turn-of-the-century American family. The story transports us back in time, where we meet Mr. and Mrs. Smith, their four daughters and one son. It is the summer of 1903 and the Smith family eagerly anticipates the opening of the 1904 World’s Fair. Over the course of a year the family’s mutual respect, tempered with good-natured humor helps them navigate life’s ups and downs.  Romantic suitors, comedic misunderstandings, jovial pranks and popular songs will delight audiences of all ages. The musical was adapted for Broadway in 1989 and was nominated for four Tony Awards.

The show is directed by Rodger McDonald, with choreography by Darryl Strohl-De Herrera and vocal direction by James Glica-Hernandez.  Lori Jarvey is the music director, leading a live-orchestra through well-known tunes like “Skip to My Lou,” “The Trolley Song,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

“Meet Me in St. Louis” features Kirsten Myers as Esther, the role made famous by Judy Garland in the original movie. Patrick Jordan plays her Princeton-bound brother, Lon. Older sister Rose is played by Jori Gonzalez, and younger sisters Agnes and Tootie are played by Marley Michel and Lilac Buckser.

The parents, Alonso and Anna Smith, are played by Brian McCann and Patricia Glass. Skyler King plays John Truitt, the “boy next door” who becomes Esther’s love interest. Charlotte French is featured as Katie, with Nathan Lacy as Grandpa and Erik Catalan as Rose’s suitor, Warren.

Recommended for ages 8 and up.
