A Concert for James
Tuesday, December 28th at 7:30 p.m.
Many lost a dear friend on January 10, 2021, as James C. Glica-Hernandez passed from complications due to COVID-19. James was a long-time teacher and mentor, as well as a musical director at the Woodland Opera House. To honor his legacy, a group of his friends and former students have arranged a special evening of music.
James had an impact on everyone he met, but most especially on his students in whom he instilled a love of music and a sense of discipline and hard work. Many of his students have gone on to pursue music and theatre as their life’s work and it is in no small part due to the role James played in nurturing them as young artists. He taught them voice and music but also how to be good people, respectful of others, and authentic to their own true selves.
The concert will benefit a scholarship created in his name, the James C. Glica-Hernandez Memorial Scholarship. A goal of $20,000 is set and the scholarship funds will be used to enable young artists from Yolo County who otherwise may not be able to afford classes through the Woodland Opera House Education Department. Proceeds from the scholarship will be awarded each session to young artists based on need, talent, and commitment to studying music, dance, and acting.
Scholarship donations can be made HERE and are also accepted by mail. Please send to Woodland Opera House, P.O. Box 1425, Woodland, CA 95776.
