MONOLOGUES, SCENES AND MORE!

Do you have questions about what monologue to choose for an audition? Are you looking for ways to develop your acting and character development technique ? Would you like to use improvisational skills to help build characters and have fun? All of this and more will be explored in this young people’s theatre experience ,Monologues, Scenes and More! The sessions are   open to students 11-16.  The class will present a showcase performance of material at the end of the session. Class size will be limited to 15 so early registration is suggested.

Private monologue coaching will be arranged with each student to fit their schedule and held online. Each student will have one hour of private coaching in addition to in class instruction.

Cheryl Watson  

With a career spanning over forty years Cheryl Watson has acted and directed in hundreds of productions with area theatres and colleges. Ms. Watson recently retired from the classroom after teaching and directing for both St. Francis High School and American River College. Cheryl has been nominated for over twenty “Elly” awards and received the award eleven times for direction and script adaptation. In 2017, she was honored with the Elly Lifetime Achievement Award.  Cheryl has directed for The Woodland Opera House since 1996. Her initial assignment was the first Young People’s Theatre production of A Christmas Carol. Her other plays include To Kill a Mockingbird, Little Women, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Hello Dolly and Curious George: Golden Meatball.  Ms Watson most recently is working with the cast of  Shaking Up Shakespeare’s  A Midsummer Night’s Dream on ZOOM for the Woodland Opera House.

Sing, Act, Dance

Musical Theater – Sing, Act, Dance! This class is perfect for any student who wants to learn more about Musical Theater. We will cover everything it takes to be a triple threat (a strong singer, actor and dancer) through exercises and in class performance opportunities. We will learn basic dance terminology and learn exercise and routines that will help us improve skills. We will spend time improving our acting talents through exercises, scene study and readings. We will focus on being more confident singers and learn basic music terminology.  We will help prepare you for your next audition and work on combating stage fright. We will explore the history of theater and learn about the great artists who have shaped Broadway and those who are currently on stage, writing and designing the shows we all want to see.

Junior Tap

This workshop introduces young dancers to the fun and rhythm of tap. Students will be taught basics while building coordination, developing rhythm, all while having a blast! (Tap shoes encouraged, but not required. Street shoes okay for this class.)

Tea, Tendus, and Turn Out: Morning Ballet with Ms. Sarry

Stay together while we are apart with this virtual class for dancers who want to keep skills up through the summer. Stay engaged physically in both brain and body during these trying times. Ballet for the Musical Theatre Student

Ballet is an important foundation of dance and is beneficial for working in Musical Theatre.  Choreography is given using the terms from ballet, which should be known for auditions and rehearsals. This applies to you too, gentlemen!  Learning proper posture techniques will also help how you present yourself in singing and acting. This is a basic foundation class for the ballet beginner aged 11 and up.

Hip Hop Choreography Workshop

This hip hop workshop will emphasize strength and musicality, and students will study and develop their own styles of dance. Students will learn new choreography and short excerpts from viral dance videos. They will learn how to utilize their own strengths and style to make the steps their own. Students must have prior dance experience to participate in this class.

Virtual Youth Summer Theatre Camp

Show Biz Kidz

“Salute the USA” 2020

WOH Youth Summer Theatre Camp is an annual program designed to be an introduction to theatre performance for area youth with or without previous training or experience.  Students spend 4 weeks studying musical theatre technique including, singing, dancing, characterization, theatre terminology, and professionalism. Students will develop performance skills and learn choreography and lyrics to songs such as “Do you Know the Way to San Jose,” “America the Beautiful” and “Santa Fe.” Morning & Afternoon groups will have the opportunity to attend two workshop classes with a theatre professional.

Each participant will receive a link to a memory collage video highlighting what was learned during camp.

Summer Show Biz Kidz Acting & Dance Intensive Program

The Summer Show Biz Kidz Intensive Program enables the intermediate-advanced student to continue in development of acting & dance skills and performance techniques.

 

Virtual Acting Intensive

Class will explore acting techniques, theatre games and scene work.  

Prerequisite: Must be registered for Afternoon Show Biz Kidz Group.

Virtual Dance Intensive*

Class will develop dance techniques and will learn choreography to one dance number.

*Audition required

Prerequisite & Audition:  Must be enrolled in Show Biz Kidz Afternoon group and have at least one year of previous dance experience. Please send a letter of recommendation from a dance teacher OR a 30 second audition video showcasing your dance experience. You may use your own choreography or someone else’s, but must include pirouettes.
